Field Hockey News
As part of the 2012 Disney Field Hockey Showcase from February 9 to February 12, three of our Upper School field hockey players participated with their respective club teams. Juniors Olivia Tornetta (XCaliber Club) and Amanda Crowley (Horizon Club) both played in the U19 division, while freshman Sophia Tornetta (WC Eagles) played in the U16 Division. Special congratulations to Sophia Tornetta and her team for taking first place out of 80 teams in the U16 Division. With over 130 college coaches in attendance, the experience was a great one for all three student-athletes.
Figure Skating News
We are pleased to announce that AIS will sponsor a figure skating team beginning this spring. Skaters will be required to practice two hours per week on ice and participate in one hour of off-ice workouts that will be held at Agnes Irwin. The off-ice workouts will be run by Ashley Ferguson '13 and overseen by Coach Pauley along with our Strength & Conditioning Coach. Skaters are required to pay for their own ice time and may practice at the Philadelphia Skating Club and Humane Society in Ardmore for a cost of $12 - $15 per hour.

The season will run from March 5 through the end of May. We hope to perform in at least one show this spring as a team, with group practices being held as we move closer to the show. A special thank you to Ashley Ferguson for researching and pitching this idea to the Athletic Department. Interested skaters should contact Coach Pauley.
Gymnastics News
For the past three weeks all of the Lower School classes have been working on their tumbling skills. These skills include, jumps, somersaults, cartwheels, handstands, back bends and back walkovers. The girls had the opportunity to try new things, work on skills they were already comfortable with and have fun. To end the tumbling unit, the 3rd grade put on a tumbling assembly for all the Lower School students, teachers and their parents to showcase their skills.

Check out this video clip of the tumbling assembly:
