Extra, Extra, Read all About It!
“Extra” Session, a new seven-week after-school enrichment and recreational program for grades PreK-4
To register, click on the link below, download and save the form to your personal computer. In order to ensure that your application gets saved correctly please follow these instructions:
· Fill in the form.
· Save it with a unique name (e.g. your child’s name).
· Email the completed form as an attachment to: lsullivan@agnesirwin.org
You may need to load Adobe Acrobat 9 onto your computer in order to fill out the form electronically.

 
Have your daughter spend an hour after school with friends learning a new skill, exercising her athletic abilities or discovering her creativity. This must-do after-school program provides constructive activities supervised by Agnes Irwin faculty and popular local instructors in a familiar environment. Don't miss the newest happenings in Lower School. Come out for "Extra" fun!
  • Each course is $155
  • Program runs Mondays - Thursdays, April 11th - May 26th
  • Classes run from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Enrollment form and payment due by Friday, March 18th
  • Please return enrollment form to Lower School Office, Attn: "Extra" Session
  • Girls bring their own snack
  • Supervision will be provided between the end of the school day and the beginning of "Extra" Session
  • Girls should be picked up in the Owl Lobby promptly at 4:30 p.m.
  • If a student is picked up between 4:45 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., a $10 late fee will be assessed. At 5:00 p.m., children who have not been picked up will go to the After Session program and a total fee of $26 will be assessed.  


Algebra: Hands on Equations
Instructor: Pedie Hill, AIS 4th grade teacher

A fun and easy way to learn algebra with manipulative. It’s a tactile, visual, hands-on approach. By the 4th lesson, students will be solving equations like 4X+3=3X+9 and 2(2X+1)= 3X+10!

Cake Boss
Instructor: Barbara Massaro, AIS LS Admissions Assistant

Your child will learn how to bake and decorate colorful and tasty cupcakes, cookies, cakes, brownies and more in our hands-on class. Besides having fun, children will learn math, science, kitchen skills and teamwork. Come discover the joys of baking with us!

Fencing                                          
Fencing Academy

Come try your hand at fencing! Fencing is an exciting way to teach children agility, strength, coordination, timing, and balance, while promoting self-esteem and teamwork. This course will geared to beginners and will include a series of fun fencing drills, exercises, and games. The main focus of classes will be for children to learn fencing footwork, pointwork, fencing techniques and bouting.

Handwork Studio One
Handwork Studio- Julia Yosen

No matter your child's age or ability, kids are patiently taught various age-appropriate handwork skills such as knitting, crochet, embroidery, needle felting and cross stitch. Children get to personalize each project through color selection, technique and embellishments. Many different projects are accomplished during of the session. As your child's skills grow so does the complexity of the projects.

Hip Hop/Zumba
Yoga 4 Kids- Carol Elia

This high-energy fitness class will be a fun-filled hour of dance moves choreographed to music. The class will begin and end with a lengthy full body stretch to both warm muscles and cool down, with the goal of improving flexibility. The dance moves that will be repetitive, easy to follow and loads of fun, will be set to hip hop, funk, jazz and the ever-popular sounds of Zumba! Children will learn the Salsa, Cumbia and Merengue as well as the famous hip dance moves of their favorite teen stars.

Knitting
Instructor: Claire Lewis, Agnes Irwin PreK Assistant

Come knits with us! Knitting is a lifelong skill that encourages concentration, counting and small-motor movements that help support skill in writing and drawing! Knitting Club is for experienced knitters and new knitters who are keen to learn. Experienced knitters will learn new stitches, ways to correct mistakes and receive help with projects. New knitters will learn how to cast on and off, and how to knit in garter and stocking stitches. Everyone will attempt to complete a project.

Lacrosse
Young Sports
 
A class for girls looking to discover lacrosse for the first time or a veteran working to improve her skills on the field. Each class will feature a lacrosse style warm-up/stretch/fitness, instruction and drills focusing on throwing, catching, ball control, passing, shooting, offensive team situations, and defensive team situations. At the conclusion of class, game play & skill challenges will be utilized to allow for each child to apply their newly developed skills in a practical environment.

Mix It Up-Spring Conditioning
Focus Fitness- Krista Ricchezza

This innovative and highly designed 7 week “Mix It Up” program will combine cardiovascular strength and conditioning, barre exercises, Pilates, Yoga and more. This incredible offering for young people will create a positive experience in a non-competitive environment. This series is designed to teach your child how to appreciate themselves from the inside out! A nutritional component will be discussed throughout the classes so we can help them bypass all those silly myths and take a more holistic approach to diet and exercise.

Musical Theatre One
Jr. Stage - MTC Version of “Wizard of Oz”
Music Training Center- Nancie Sanderson

Students will learn the purpose and basics of warming up the voice and body for any kind of musical theater class. Each week, students will rehearse a customized version of a previous Music Training Center musical theater production and will participate in a culminating performance for their peers (and parents). During the rehearsal process, students will learn stage directions, techniques to improve projection and enunciation, basic character development, and the importance of teamwork. Performance on 5/26 at 3:30 P.M.

A dynamic, hands-on class, students will work in the garden, explore campus, look for and learn about flora and fauna right at Agnes Irwin. Ties into science and language arts curricula.

Newspaper Club
Instructor: Sarah Kinder, Agnes Irwin LS Technology Specialist

Students will create a newspaper using Microsoft Publisher. They will travel around the school to learn about what’s happening and report the news. Other sections may include interviews, reviews, opinions, puzzles, etc. Photography and artwork will also be featured. We will publish our work to share!

Softball

Students will get an introduction to the sport of softball! Participants will learn the rules, safety, throwing, hitting and pitching techniques. A fun addition to Little League softball practice!

Tumbling

This fun class will include instruction in beginner and intermediate tumbling, which will include handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, backbends and more. Parents and/or special friends are welcome to attend the last class for a demonstration/observation.

Yoga
Focus Fitness- Eliakim Warren

Yoga builds self-esteem and self-respect. Children who practice yoga regularly can increase focus and attention span; develop strong, healthy bodies; learn how to cope with stress; relax and sleep better; respect other people and the world around the…and have a whole lot of fun!

You, Too, Can Be An Author
Instructor: Daphne Apostolidis, AIS 2nd grade teacher

Students will have fun learning to write short stories and poems in various forms. They will learn to play with language as they paint pictures with words.
