Dear Parents,
Share some low-tech time with your daughter this weekend, or next, or sometime soon! Here’s a list of an even dozen ideas…I’m certain you can generate many more that make sense for you and her.
1. Go on a hike. The weather hasn’t been too wintry, so you can enjoy some time outside without having to pile on too many layers.
2. Take a bike ride. Lots of girls love to ride when they’re younger, then leave the bike in the garage or the basement when they hit adolescence. Help them remember how much fun they had gliding down a hill.
3. Do you enjoy photography? Teach your daughter what you know and go looking for photo opps in an unfamiliar neighborhood, at a dog park or a playground, a market or garden shop.
4. Visit a museum or a local historic site – tourists see more of Philadelphia than some of the rest of us!
5. Give a room a fresh coat of paint.
6. Refinish a piece of furniture.
7. Go through old photos together.
8. Bathe the dog.
9. Play some favorite board games from when your daughter was “little.”
10. Teach her to play gin rummy, canasta or five-card draw.
11. Plan a meal together, shop for the ingredients and then cook side-by-side.
12. Spend some time listening to the music you loved in middle school or high school and the music she loves now.
The only rule? No cell phones, laptops or iPads allowed.
