Applicants for grades PreKindergarten and Kindergarten will spend part of a morning at Agnes Irwin. Visits are planned as a small group experience, designed to provide a fun and comfortable introduction to our school and our teachers, while engaging the children in a variety of group and one-on-one activities. We will provide parents with detailed feedback from teachers within a few days of the visit. Please contact Linda Solomon or Bonnie Clark to schedule a student visit.
The final day for Kindergarten visits is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, 2011 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Please call 610-523-7986 to visit after this date.
Applicants for grades 1-4 will spend a full day at Agnes Irwin in order to get a feel for the campus, meet the teachers and students, and experience a typical day at AIS. Please contact Linda Solomon or Bonnie Clark to schedule a visit day.
Below are some questions and answers that will help you prepare for your child’s visit. We can’t wait to see you!
Do I need to apply before my child’s visit? Yes, you do need to submit your application before the student visit. The application and “Parent Questionnaire” forms will help us plan for the visit and make the best possible match with a student hostess.
What should my child wear for the Visit Day? The girls here are active and busy. Children should wear comfortable school clothing (no jeans or t-shirts, please), including sneakers and outerwear appropriate to the weather.
What time should I arrive at AIS? Where do I go? Applicants to grades PreKindergarten and Kindergarten should arrive five minutes prior to the group visit start times indicated above.
Applicants to grades 1-4 should arrive between 8-8:15 a.m. Agnes Irwin has two entrances on South Ithan Avenue. Please use the Lower School entrance, which is marked by a driveway with stone pillars. The other entrance (Middle/Upper School) is marked by The Agnes Irwin School sign. Parents should park in the reserved Admission parking spaces facing the athletics field. We will meet you in the Lower School Lobby.
Does my child need to bring anything with her? Children don’t need to bring anything with them. Our teachers have all that they will need. For full day visitors, snack and lunch are provided. For lunch, children can choose between a hot entrée or a selection of sandwiches, or they may bring a lunch from home. Please alert us to any food allergies prior to your daughter’s visit, so that we may discuss treatments, if needed, and plan accordingly with our school nurse.
What grade will my child visit? Applicants for grades 1-4 will spend the day visiting a classroom in their current grade level.
What will my child’s day be like? Applicants to grades 1-4 will participate in normal classroom activities, including specials such as art, music and physical education, depending on the daily schedule. Girls will have time to relax during snack and recess, play at gym and have fun at lunch. If she wants to participate in classes, by all means, she can! We love to hear what visitors have to say. Some girls prefer to take some time to warm up, that is just fine too. This day is for your daughter to spend time in our community. All types of girls are happy and comfortable here. The day ends at 2:30 p.m., when visitors are dismissed.
Is it normal for my child to feel nervous? Visiting schools is exciting and a little scary—a combination that often results in jittery nerves! Don’t worry—we are here to make your child’s day as relaxed, fun and informative as possible. Our visitors leave with a great sense of the lively students, engaging academics and warm community that make Agnes Irwin a great place to go to school!
What if I have a question after my child’s Visit Day? We are here to answer your questions at any time. If there is something you would like to discuss after the Visit Day, just give us a call at 610.523.7986. Anyone in the Admission Office would be happy to talk to you!
