Agnes Irwin and Haverford Join Forces to Fight Hunger

The Service Boards at The Agnes Irwin School and The Haverford School are sponsoring an Empty Bowls Supper on Sunday, February 27 at 5:00 p.m. in Agnes Irwin’s Laura Thomas Buck ’49 Pavilion. The event consists of a soup supper, a display of student artwork, an auction and an open mic night.

The Empty Bowls Project is an international effort to fight hunger, and it is personalized by artists, as well as art and service organizations, on a community level. For the past six years, the Service Boards at AIS and Haverford have been working together to fight hunger in the Philadelphia area. The Empty Bowls Project at The Agnes Irwin School and The Haverford School has raised over $20,000 since 2003.

The cost for dinner is $10 for students, $12 for adults and $40 for families of four or more. Included in the meal are soup, generously donated by Campbell’s Soup; a beverage, courtesy of Wawa; bread and cookies, as well as a handmade bowl, either mosaic or hand-thrown, created by the students and staff at Agnes Irwin and Haverford. During the supper, specialty items will be raffled and auction off, and t-shirts will be on sale.

Sponsorship opportunities are also available for a donation of $100 or more. The donation includes soup suppers for sponsors’ families. Contact Jennifer Fiorini at jfiorini@agnesirwin.org or 610-525-8400 ext. 1725 for more sponsorship information.

Cash or checks will be accepted. Checks can be made payable to The Agnes Irwin School. For more information, please contact Jennifer Fiorini at jfiorini@agnesirwin.org.
