Letter from Lynne
Dear Parents,

They plan lessons that are informative, age-appropriate, and stimulating. They decorate classrooms and hallways to catch the eyes of early adolescents. They take home stacks and stacks of papers: essays, tests, problem sets, lab reports, research projects. They give individual help to students who seek it. They compose hundreds of comments for progress reports and have countless conversations with parents – in person, on the phone and via email. They push, encourage, compliment, enjoy, discipline, guide and worry about their students and advisees. They go on overnights and field trips, and they attend performances, robotic competitions, award ceremonies, and sporting events. They do lunch duty, cover study halls, coach teams and display artwork. They meet with colleagues to plan and discuss issues affecting many students, and confer on concerns regarding individuals. They attend workshops, conferences and classes to learn more.

Of course, I’m referring to your daughter’s teachers. Yes, it’s their job. But it’s a big job, a demanding job, and one of the most important jobs of all. And no, this is not Teacher Appreciation week or month, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the hard work our Middle School teachers do day in and day out on behalf of their students, and how fortunate I feel to work with them!

Annual Giving Update
Dear Parents,
Many of you recently received a letter from Dr. Mary Seppala regarding the Agnes Irwin Annual Fund and how gifts to this fund help sustain the school’s extraordinary programs and unique student experiences. To date, 42% of Agnes Irwin families have contributed to the 2010-2011 Annual Fund. We sincerely appreciate the support of these families and hope others will join them in making a contribution. Please make a gift before June 15th and help us reach our goal of 65% parent participation.
