Letter from Anne
Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that final exams are just around the corner. Though it may seem a little early to start studying, to perform effectively, starting early will help your daughter to not only be ready but to also be confident that she knows the material well. These tips from brighthub.com can help with the process:

Make a Schedule: for each class, figure out what you will need to study and how long it will take. For instance, if you will need to know ten chapters in your science textbook, plan on studying an hour per chapter plus one hour for review, which equals eleven hours in total. Then figure out how many days you have before the exam and spread those eleven hours out. Do this with each class and stick to your schedule!

Leave the Best for Last: do the more difficult or less interesting work first and leave the most interesting or easiest work for last. You will be fresher for the more difficult studying and then energized with what you like last.

The Best Study Method: Read, Recite, Review. Read the textbook or your notes, then write a summary of what you read, then test yourself for review.

Make up a Sample Final: Look for themes in your notes and anything the teacher emphasized. Go through old tests and quizzes. Make up a sample final of questions you think the teacher might ask. Have a friend do the same. Then swap sample finals, take them, and then review with your friend.

As Ferris Bueller said, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

So, encourage your daughter to slow down and take stock of what she will need to do to succeed. Following these four simple rules can make exam time less stressful and more successful!

(The final exam schedule is in the download section to the right.)

This week we had a great time with both Spanish Week (great music and cookies!) and Sophomore Day (ring ceremony and games!).  Next week will highlight the 10th grade Shakespeare trip, the Junior College Panel Night, and ECO Club’s celebration of the Earth. Comments should be in the mail today! Be sure to listen to the new AIS Radio Station linked to the right.
