Letter from Lynne
Dear Parents,

Just a very brief message today, in the form of a quotation from American humorist, Arnold Glasow:

“Expecting something for nothing is the most popular form of hope.”

Students hope to finish the school year well, but sometimes have lost the energy or motivation needed to back up that hope with hard work. This is both normal and understandable – they are young, and the demands of the school year are many. It’s common for parents to talk with their daughters at the beginnings of terms about goals; perhaps less common is speaking at the conclusions of terms about hopes, and how to bring them to fruition. Maybe it’s a conversation that makes sense for you and your daughter. If so, this little tidbit may add to your perspective on the time she still has to “get it right”: Arnold Glasow was 92 years old when he published his first book.
