Letter from Donna
Dear Parents,

Earlier this week, members of the Agnes Irwin School faculty and staff came together to celebrate milestone tenures of colleagues. In the Lower School, Barbara Massaro and Pedie Hill were recognized for 10 and 25 years of work here, respectively.

Our Lower School has one of the most caring, efficient, and dedicated office staff around. Every adult who works here is part of the larger team in our building, but I know that I cannot begin to do the job I do without the help of those who work in our front office space each day. Barbara Massaro is one of those individuals. In addition to serving as the Lower School receptionist she is also the Lower School admission assistant. She opens car doors with me once a week, she shepherds in our late arrivals, she teaches an Extra Session class for our girls, she makes sure that our prospective parents (and our current ones as well) have everything that they need when they come for a visit—she has even been known to, on at least one occasion, cover a lunch duty! I could go on, but you get the picture. Barbara is a team player, and we are so lucky to have her with us each day.

Some of you may not know that Pedie Hill was a student from kindergarten to third grade in this very Lower School before her family moved to Boston. That she decided to return here to teach fourth grade when the opportunity arose is no small statement of her level of commitment and dedication to this community. Hundreds, if not thousands of girls have passed through her classroom doors, and I believe that each and every one of them has learned valuable lessons in the nine months that they spent with her. Whether it was how to do long division, the art of being organized and responsible, or how to collaborate, work together, and still compete without arguing in a game of four square on the playground, Pedie Hill teaches students every day that what they know and how they show what they know, matters. She teaches her students to embrace challenges, and models for them every day what it means to do something you love. Pedie Hill expects nothing but the best that every girl can give, every day, and she is committed to helping them reach that bar which sometimes looks so far away.

We in the Lower School are so very fortunate to have these two individuals as part of our community. Congratulations, Barbara and Pedie!

Japanese Festival - Lower School Singers needed!
On Sunday, May 22, from 3:00-5:00 P.M., there will be A Japanese Festival fundraiser organized by Upper School students to raise relief money for the earthquake victims.  This is in conjunction with the American/Japanese Red Cross Relief Agency.  One of the many activities scheduled is a performance by volunteer Lower School students (grades 1-4) at 4 p.m. (lasting approximately 15 minutes).  If you would like your daughter to sing, please contact Murray Savar (e-mail) or 610-525-7600 x1718.  Thank you!

Internet Safety Series
Tuesday marks the final presentation of our three part series on Internet safety. Michelle Burns and Sarah Kinder will be co-presenting on what your girls learn and how they practice Internet safety while they are with us each day. We are offering two workshops on Tuesday. One will be held from 8:30-9:30 A.M. in the Lower School Library, and the second, exact same presentation, will be offered from 7:30-8:30 P.M. in the Lower School Music Room. If you have not done so already, please contact Carol Hillman at 610-525-7600 x1617 or chillman@agnesirwin.org to let her know if you plan to attend. Those of you who have attended the previous two presentations and come on Monday will receive a special gift for your effort and interest!
