International Students Join AIS Community
The 143rd academic year at The Agnes Irwin School commenced with an All-School Assembly on Wednesday, September 7. As girls began to arrive on site, filled with anticipation for the new year, it became apparent that some exciting changes had occurred in the community while they were gone.

As they entered the building, they could see the products of a long summer of hard work. With updated Apple technology, a new parking lot and campus improvements, it was clear that not even vacation had stopped Agnes Irwin from making progress.

Among the many unfamiliar faces of new faculty, staff, classmates and soon-to-be friends, they found four girls who could offer them a global experience without even leaving the halls. Four international students from China joined the Upper School for their first day and were welcomed with cheer. As members of the freshman and sophomore classes, Leilei Liu ’14, Angela Zhang ’14, Olivia Mao ’14 and Elena Su ’15 are eager to get involved, share their experiences and become true Irwin's girls.

Finally, at the All-School Assembly, they all found that their entire school community would be embarking on a new journey together. As she addressed the student body, Christina Wusinich ’12, President of the Student Government, challenged each girl to follow her dreams and stay true to herself. Attending Agnes Irwin helped Wusinich attain such desires:

“I’m going to be honest with you all. It is not easy to come up with something to say to a room of four to 18 year olds. What is relevant to us all? And, in what ways are we the same? Well, to begin with, we are all Irwin's girls. You will be told time and again what that means. We are honorable, intelligent, respectful, and confident young women. Looking out on you all now, I can easily see that this is true. I have so much pride for this school because, in my 12 years here, I have learned not only how to be an Irwins girl but also how to be myself.”

The Agnes Irwin School community looks forward to another wonderful year, full of innovation, challenges, successes and, most importantly, discovery as girls learn to be their best selves.
