Dear Parents,
Question: What do Cheerios, Ziploc sandwich bags, Hefty garbage bags and Progresso soups have in common with the Lower School?
Answer: When you buy them, cut off their “Box Top” labels and send them to AIS, you raise money for the Lower School!
We will be participating in the Box Tops 4 Education program for the second year in a row. Last year, we raised over $600. This year, we have set a goal to raise $1,000. The way it works is simple. Clip the “Box Tops” off participating products (of which there are over 300) and send them into school with your daughter. We will mail them to Box Tops 4 Education, and they will be redeemed for cash. The money we earned last year was used in various ways, ranging from an ice cream party for the classes who brought in the most “Box Tops” to an allowance girls could decide how to spend as a class.
Why are we collecting “Box Tops?” After all, we are fiscally sound as a school and the Lower School does not need to be creative raising money in order to accomplish our goals. The reason is simple. The opportunity to work as a class, grade or school towards a common goal is an opportunity to teach a valuable lesson about the benefits of collaboration, a skill that has been important since the beginning of human time but is currently valued in our society as a 21st century learning skill.
Why am I taking up newsletter space to tell you about this endeavor? Because the lesson will not be effective without your help! I spoke to the girls at our assembly today about the program, and they are coming home to you very excited with a flyer explaining the specific directions. Please support the girls by helping them find and cut out “Box Tops” to bring to school. The quantity does not matter; your support does. We will post tally updates in future newsletters. Past Lower School parent Suzanne Veronese will continue coordinating the program but could desperately use help counting the “Box Tops” before they are mailed. This is a perfect job for a working parent who wants to be involved in the school but is unable to be around during the day. If you are interested in helping her, let me know and I will put you in touch.
GO TEAM!

It’s Admission Season! Beginning, Mon. 10/3, the Admission Office will begin hosting prospective families on campus for tours, interviews and parent appointments. We hope you will support our efforts in welcoming families to campus. One way you can do so is to allow admission families to park in the reserved admission spaces. Families always comment how much they appreciate this feature. We are especially busy first thing in the morning, so if you are running inside to drop off something for your daughter, kindly use a general visitor spot and save the admission spaces for our visitors.
The Lower School Admission Open House will be held on Wed. 10/5
from 9-11 a.m. Please share the date with friends and families who may
be interested in attending. This is a great opportunity for prospective
families to see the school in action! If you would like us to mail an
invitation to a friend, please contact Barbara Massaro.
The Lower School will participate in “Lee National Denim Day,” one of the largest single-day fundraisers nationwide for breast cancer. Girls are invited to wear jeans to school on Thurs. 10/6 to support the fight against breast cancer.
Training sessions for new Admission Volunteers/Tour Guides will be held soon. If you are interested in participating, please contact either at Linda Solomon or Bonnie Clark. In partnership with Maxim Health Systems, AIS will offer on-site vaccinations with Flumist (Influenza Virus Vaccine Live, Intranasal), an intranasal flu vaccine. It will be available to all students on Thurs. 10/6. Please return the completed Consent Form on the day of the vaccinations.
Please visit the AIS Parents page to view the new 2011-2012 AIS Directory and for current forms, news and notes. |
