It was clear from early on in her athletic trajectory at Agnes Irwin that Campbell Crochiere was going to shine – at least, that’s what Sheila Pauley, Director of Athletics at Agnes Irwin, witnessed while watching Campbell play lacrosse in middle school.
Several years later, on November 15, 2011, that premonition came to fruition as Campbell signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her lacrosse and academic career at the University of Richmond, sealing her athletic future.
“Her athletic ability is outstanding…even as a young Middle School student Campbell’s dexterous athleticism stood out,” said Pauley. “I’m just so glad to be part of her final year here at Agnes Irwin. Richmond is lucky to have her!”
Campbell came to Agnes Irwin in kindergarten. During her years at AIS, she has participated heavily in sports and extracurricular activities including “Wick” (the school newspaper), PALS (peer mentoring), the Psychology Club, the Ecology Club and the Culinary Club. Today, Campbell acts as a representative for her senior class in Agnes Irwin’s Athletic Association. “I really enjoy this leadership opportunity because I love sports and have always enjoyed participating on Agnes Irwin’s sports teams.”
Throughout her Upper School years, Campbell became engrossed in the sciences. Her favorite subject to date is bioethics for its interesting and sometimes controversial topics that generate stimulating discussions in class. “I love the sciences at Agnes Irwin, and it helps how dedicated the teachers are to their students.”
Looking back at her SSP experience – the Special Studies Program offered at Agnes Irwin for sophomores and juniors – Campbell recounts her trip to Kingston, Jamaica, noting the stark difference in the value of education here in the United States and in Jamaica. “I went into the Jamaica SSP with the expectations of teaching the children at the schools and the hospital new things but in reality, the children taught me much more than I ever could teach them,” said Campbell. “I also came back with a much greater appreciation for my education. In Kingston, the teachers would leave their class hours at a time, answer their cell phones in the middle of class and did not really care whether or not the students successfully understood the material.”
Campbell also has participated in Habitat for Humanity and Education in Philadelphia. Rounding out her impressive roster of extracurricular activities, Campbell managed to play soccer, squash and lacrosse, and attain several sports awards, including:
• Tri Sports Award, Sophomore Year • All Inter-Ac Second Team, Sophomore and Junior Years • All Main Line Second Team, Sophomore and Junior Years • Unsung Hero Award Soccer, Junior Year • Lacrosse Most Improved, Junior Year
At the University of Richmond, Campbell will play lacrosse at the Division I level. Sanctioned by the NCAA (The National Collegiate Athletic Association), Division I is the highest level of intercollegiate athletics.
“Richmond will be able to provide me with the resources to further develop my education while simultaneously allowing me to play lacrosse at a high level," said Campbell enthusiastically. “I will definitely miss the amazing environment at AIS and surrounding myself with other girls who value their education and work to achieve their best.”
Campbell’s Stats from the 2011 Lacrosse Season:
• 64 goals- #1 on the team last year • 7 assists • 71 total points- #2 on the team last year • 65 draw controls- #1 on the team • 41 ground balls- #1 on the team
Campbell’s total career goals scored: 103 surpassing the milestone of her 100th career goal (which was celebrated in the last game against Germantown Academy) |
