Drug and Alcohol Education – What You Should Know

As part of our comprehensive program on Drug and Alcohol Education, The Agnes Irwin School provides several opportunities for students and parents to discuss the impact of substance abuse. Each year, the 9th grade participates in the online education program Alcohol.Edu. In December, faculty and staff from all divisions will join in a professional development discussion with Patti Anne McAndrews, Founder of Adolescent Advocates of Bryn Mawr, about the warning signs of substance abuse, whether in the home or by the student.

Beginning in January, the following programs will be held for students and parents. We hope that you will join us for the parent events!

CRUISIN' NOT BOOZIN
' (CNB)
– Tuesday, January 3 from 7-8:30 p.m. • West-Wike Theatre
CNB, an award-winning program developed and sponsored by Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital, will present to students and parents. CNB brings children, teenagers and young adults face to face with the potentially devastating consequences of distracted or impaired driving. The program is a peer-to-peer approach and features testimony and first-hand stories from survivors of motor vehicle accidents that were the result of distracted or impaired driving. Our speakers sustained life-changing injuries and they tell their stories about recovery, rehabilitation and the long-term effects and consequences they live with every day. CNB has proven effective in changing the attitudes of young people about driving while impaired or distracted. More than 500,000 students from elementary school through college in the tri-state region have participated in CNB presentations since the program began in 1989.
