Inclement Weather Procedures |
Below is a review of The Agnes Irwin School’s policy and procedures for unexpected delays, early dismissals and cancellations due to inclement weather. |
 | |
| |
School Closings and Delayed Openings |
Delayed openings and cancellations are made as early as possible in the morning. In the event of a delayed opening or school closing, we will activate our AlertNow Notification Service, which will call your designated AlertNow phone number. If you or your children anticipate inclement weather or dangerous driving conditions, you can watch the early television newscasts, listen to KYW Newsradio 1060-AM or check local news media websites ( 6abc.com, NBC10.com, KYW1060.com) for school closing or delayed opening information. Assuming a power failure does not prevent it, the Agnes Irwin website (“pop-up” and scroll bar) and the school’s phone message will reflect our status. These are quick and easy ways to find out what is happening with a potential delay of opening or school cancellation. In the case of a delayed opening, a link to the abbreviated schedule of classes will be posted on the homepage of the website. (Please remember to disable your “Pop-Up” blocker when checking the site.) |

Early Dismissals |
Inclement weather also can cause early dismissals during the day. Generally, The Agnes Irwin School remains open for a full school day once classes have started in the morning. It is possible, however, that during inclement weather your school district could call an early dismissal and The Agnes Irwin School would remain open. With 20 school districts providing bus service to Agnes Irwin, it is critical that parents stay informed regarding their local school districts’ policy. Each district makes its own decision regarding early dismissals, which may vary by location, often with little notice. Parents whose daughters typically ride a public school bus must have on file with the school what action the school should take in the case of an early arrival of school buses. If your daughter rides the bus, please complete this online form to record your requests and other important information.
A table of school closing numbers for KYW Newsradio 1060-AM and the appropriate district contact information is included below. Please make a plan with your child in the event that you will not be home. (Note: Children cannot ride on a school bus other than the one to which they are assigned.)
In the event of potential bad weather during the school day, please stay up-to-date with the conditions as they develop either through television, radio or media websites. If it is clear that we need to call an early dismissal, you will be contacted by the AlertNow service through the phone number you have provided. Early dismissals will also be listed on television stations (6abc WPVI-TV, WTXF FOX 29, NBC10), radio stations (KYW Newsradio 1060-AM) and media websites (listed above). You will be able to identify The Agnes Irwin School by name or its school closing number – 498 – on KYW Newsradio 1060 AM. In the occurrence of an early dismissal, all afternoon programs and events will be canceled. We ask that you promptly pick up your child at the early dismissal time reported.
In the event of an early dismissal, we ask that the students not contact you directly. The information that they give you may be incorrect or incomplete and may cause a potentially unsafe situation. The most important concern in these instances is the safety of the students. If there is an extenuating circumstance, please call the school, and we will work with you to manage the situation.

Pick Up Procedures |
Parents and guardians who make arrangements for their daughters to be picked up early by a third-party must contact the Administrative Assistants of their respective divisions via email to notify them of their plan. Contact information for the Administrative Assistants is listed below and can be found in the Student Directory.
We hope this information will help you feel prepared for the unexpected disruptions to the normal school day that can occur during the winter months. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your Division Director. |
