Strength & Conditioning Program |
We are excited to announce the start of a Strength & Conditioning Program for Upper School students. The program will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4 – 5:00 pm. It’s a great opportunity for those not involved in a winter sport to get ready for the spring season or just to reach their fitness goals. The strength and conditioning coach Amy Carrolla is a trainer and owner of Balance Chestnut Hill, a personal training studio in Chestnut Hill. She is a graduate of West Chester University with a B.S. degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Nutrition. She has certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She recently became certified in Functional Movement Screening (FMS) and Madd Dog Spinning. Check back for updates on the program.

Important Concussion Legislation |
Have you heard about Senate Bill 200 – better known as the Safety in Youth Sports Act – and how it’s going to impact you? The Safety in Youth Sports Act was created to bring more attention and awareness, in the form of education, to head injuries and concussions. The act impacts almost everyone involved in athletics from athletes and coaches to parents and health care providers. What we know about concussions and head injuries has changed so much, even within the last five years, and, as our understanding continues to evolve, it’s important that athletes and parents understand the complexities associated with these injuries. The more we can educate our athletes the better self advocates they will become. The act now makes annual concussion education and reporting a mandatory process for all. To help with this process, the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainer’s Society has teamed up with Sport Safety International to introduce Concussion Wise, a quality online educational program designed to meet the needs of all. This free online program can be accessed at www.concussionwise.com/Pennsylvania. Stay tuned for further updates on the implementation and reporting process that Agnes Irwin Athletics will require for coaches, athletes, and parents/guardians. |

Crew Parent Meeting The crew team will be holding an important parent meeting on Saturday January 21st at 9:30 am in the Assembly Room. This meeting is required for at least one parent of each rower. Information will be given about parent volunteering during the spring. We also ask parents to bring their check made out to Friends of Owl Rowing for $250. This covers the cost of tent and boathouse food and beverage basics for the season and other miscellaneous expenses. In addition we will be taking orders for unis and warm weather gear. |
