Letter from Anne
Dear Parents,

Satire: (noun) a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision or ridicule.

Whether you are someone who is familiar with all of Shakespeare’s plays, or not, you will enjoy the humor and contemporary allusions in Repco’s production of The Complete Works of Shakespeare. The cast comprises many familiar faces, while also introducing a number of very talented new performers. The dialogue is quick-witted, quick-paced and full of innuendo and surprises in rhyme, energy and satirical repartee. The ever-familiar stories of Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Othello and the less familiar of Twelfth Night and Titus Andronicus will keep you on the edge of your seat and heartily laughing. Picture everything from rap to tongue-less speech, sword fighting to audience participation, and even a drowning. The costuming and set are colorful and professional, and the lighting supports the irony found in many scenes. This is a wholly delightful, successful production, and I urge all of you to attend!

As we close out Arts Week, we thoroughly enjoyed Impulse Arts Night, showcasing talent from all the area schools. We celebrated the Chinese New Year, and Art for Eburu is still hung in the Arts Wing lower hallway – we encourage you to support this fund-raiser for the Eburu School in Kenya. We head next into Black History Month, during which we will enjoy hearing from violinist Diane Monroe. There are a number of field trips in February as AIS continues to draw on enrichment opportunities outside our school walls. The last dance of the year will be next Friday, in support of Student Government. Please review the dance guidelines (found in the Downloads box) to be sure you and your daughter know the school’s expectations.

We are putting the final touches on two policies, one for Bullying and one for Concussions. These will be shared with the community in the next month.

As we inch towards scheduling for the 2012-2013 school year, please be diligent in returning your daughter’s signed course selection form. Thank you!

Finally, please congratulate Emily Wetz for scoring her 1,000th point in Thursday’s home basketball game against Academy of Notre Dame!

Have a great weekend!

- Anne
