Letter from Anne
Dear Parents,

Stress has become a common word in our everyday language. However, do we really know what true stress feels like? The Mayo Clinic shares the impact of stress on the body:

Your body remains in a heightened state, which can:

• Damage the nervous system
• Wear out your body’s reserves
• Weaken your immune system
• Elevate your blood pressure
• Leave you feeling completely overwhelmed

Symptoms can be:

• Anxiety/panic attacks
• Feeling constantly pressured, hurried, hassled
• Stomach problems/headaches/chest pain
• Eczema/asthma/problems sleeping
• Substance abuse/eating disorders/sadness/depression

The Mayo Clinic suggests that those who are stressed implement the “4 As.”

AVOID: rearrange, reschedule, learn to say no (leave early to avoid traffic; don’t engage that person who annoys you, etc)

ALTER: find ways to reduce workload, to delegate tasks, to work collaboratively

ACCEPT: don’t suffer in silence if you can’t alter your situation; reach out, talk to a friend, take a break

ADAPT: redefine success, perfection and be kind to yourself – look at the long view.

Finally, listen to your body: eat right, exercise, get adequate sleep.

Let’s do what we can to reduce the “stress” in our and our daughters’ lives by being mindful of this wise advice.

Have a great weekend!

- Anne

Please keep in mind the following school policies for SSPs.

Program Dates: The first week of SSP runs from Tues. 2/21 to Fri. 2/24 and the second week runs from Mon. 2/27 to Fri. 3/2. Travel programs leave earlier and return later as communicated by SSP chaperones.

Attendance: If a student is absent during SSP, a parent or guardian must notify Donna Page by 8 a.m. as usual. In addition, a parent or guardian of absent students must also notify the head SSP chaperone by phone.

Snow Days: For local programs, if school is cancelled for inclement weather, then local SSPs also are cancelled for the day. SSPs will still run on days that there is a two-hour delay but, depending on the SSP, the activities and location may change. In the event of a snow delayed opening, SSP faculty chaperones will email students about the day’s schedule.

Dress: What is appropriate dress for SSP very much depends on the SSP each student has chosen. SSP chaperones have clearly communicated dress standards; parents and guardians are asked to please remind students of their importance.

We are just weeks away from the beginning of the C21 Challenge, a full immersion, multi-disciplinary program designed specifically for our ninth grade class. Though most of the particulars about the specific challenges are kept under wraps, here are a few things that you should know:

Dates: The C21 Challenge runs from Tues. 2/21 to Fri. 3/2. Each day begins at 8:05 a.m. in the West-Wike Theatre, where that day's challenge will be revealed.

Attendance: This program is mandatory, as a satisfactory completion is reflected on transcripts.

Dress: Students should be in comfortable, Friday dress clothing. Athletic shoes are recommended.

Meals: Students should be prepared to eat lunch on campus as they would on any other school day.

The C21 Challenge is an exciting way for our students to apply what they are learning in a traditional classroom setting in a project based experience.
