At the start of seventh grade Spanish, we reinforce the material learned in Spanish 6, including holding conversations regarding age, origin, mental and physical states, likes and dislikes, and daily activities. Students review present tense and irregular verb conjugations, as well as vocabulary related to food, music, clothing, and pastimes. As the term progresses, students will to describe houses, household items, chores, people, and locations. They also learn affirmative and negative command forms as well describing what they are going to do in the future. The students acquire these linguistic elements through meaningful, communicative activities, such as dialogues, problem-solving activities, skits, role-plays, games, creative projects, computer activities, videos, listening, and writing exercises. In the winter, the students will begin to learn more irregular verbs and advanced grammar, such as stem-changing verb conjugations, reflexive verbs, and the difference between similar verbs. In the final months of school, students continue to expand their language skills, describing activities that they and others did using the preterit tense (past tense) as well as activities taking place in the present moment as an ongoing action (present progressive).
