In a ceremony on January 11, Athletics Director Sheila Pauley recognized seven student-athletes that will be continuing their athletic career at the collegiate level. These seven are among 14 student-athletes from the Class of 2017 that are continuing their sports in college.

“Congratulations on all that you’ve accomplished,” Pauley told the students. “You are outstanding role models, and we are proud of the manner in which you represent yourselves, team, family and school.”

Julianna Tornetta, who will play field hockey at Princeton University, is the all time-time leading goal scorer for AIS. “Her talent, work ethic and character have all solidified her place in our programs history, and will not be forgotten,” said coach Abbey Sir Louis. “In addition to her outstanding performance at AIS, Julianna balanced the great honor and commitment to training with the National Team this fall.”

Kendall Shein will play soccer at Pomona College next fall. “She is not only a very talented goal keeper, but she was a great captain and leader both on and off the field,” said head coach Mike Welsh. “Agnes Irwin would not have been, and will not be, the same without her.”

Hailey Andress will continue her lacrosse career at Cornell. Head coach Jenny Duckenfield commented, “Freshman year, Hailey was asked to step into goal without any prior experience. When you have the character and athletic integrity that Hailey does, you can only succeed — and that is why she is one of the top goalkeepers in the country.”

Emmie Kiely “is a silent leader in the sense that she lets her work do the talking,” commented Duckenfield. “She never puts anyone but her teammates first. I’m excited for Emmie to continue her lacrosse career at Brown University.”

Kathryn Hall will join the sailing team at Dartmouth College. “Kathryn is a tremendous sailor and spends a good chunk of the academic year and summer perfecting her craft,” said Dean of Students and Kathryn’s advisor, Jennifer Fiorini.  Most recently, Kathryn spent her winter break in New Zealand, where she was also invited to try out for the Olympic team. “Currently the top female sailor in the United States, Kathryn still finds time to be a three-sport athlete at Agnes Irwin. Above all this, she’s a terrific human and does an incredible job of balancing her academics and athletics at AIS with her amazing outside career,” Fiorini said.

Alicia O’Neil will play lacrosse at Cornell University next year. “Alicia is one of the most competitive players on the field, and will do whatever it takes to help her team win,” Duckenfield said. “She brings out the best in the players around her and Cornell is going to be a powerhouse with two of the top high school defenders in the country.”

Camaryn Walsh will join the lacrosse team at Wofford College. “Camaryn has worked very hard the last couple of years and shown her commitment and love for the sport. She did not let any setbacks get in her way of playing at the next level,” Duckenfield said.

More than 20 percent of Agnes Irwin’s Class of 2017 will play sports at the collegiate level.
