Welcome to the Lower School!
At the Agnes Irwin Lower School, we take ‘all-girls’ very seriously.

Every decision made in the Lower School rests on how girls learn best, with the school day intentionally designed to encourage learning and social opportunities that build meaningful connections. The Lower School curriculum challenges girls to stretch their abilities, while providing them with the guidance and support to do so. The social skills curriculum emphasizes the importance of empathy for others, while also teaching students to find their own individual voices. Technology is integrated into every aspect of learning, with an emphasis on safe and responsible usage. Second and third graders learn how to manage their documents, and every fourth grader receives an AIS email address so they can learn how to correspond with others in the AIS community.

Lower School faculty represent a passionate community of learners who are dedicated to understanding what motivates each individual girl. They serve as role models, demonstrating that learning is a lifelong process. In Lower School, we also recognize the importance of play and exercise in brain development and academic achievement. The girls have PE class four days a week, and there are two play periods built into each day. Public speaking begins in a very real way starting in Kindergarten, where students present their inventions in a science fair atmosphere to an audience of parents and members of the greater Agnes Irwin community.

The future hangs on the monkey bars at AIS. Here strong, confident young women begin as strong, confident little girls.
