It’s the joyous buzz of girls ready to take on an exciting and transformative era of cognitive and social growth - and it’s what makes these years at Agnes Irwin so special. Your daughter’s time in Middle School will be marked by phenomenal change, and throughout this period of personal discovery, Agnes Irwin provides an environment in which this growth feels exhilarating and at the same time manageable.
From an academic standpoint, coursework is sequentially skill-oriented. Concepts in areas such as writing that are introduced in Grade 5 are refined and advanced throughout Grades 6, 7 and 8, building a solid foundation for your daughter as she prepares to enter high school. A focus on interdisciplinary education helps bring material to life, leading to more meaningful and memorable learning experiences. In one example, girls are studying the topic of immigration in not only history classes, but also English, sciences and the arts, helping them gain an understanding of its impact on the past, present and future. What’s more, a collaborative classroom environment helps create bonds among students and their peers as they explore new worlds of learning, while the teacher-student relationship is one filled with warmth and support.
Middle School physical education and athletics programs also help girls develop values related to health and well-being while learning the importance of teamwork and dedication to their sport. Girls are encouraged to explore new interests on and off the field with a dedicated group of faculty and coaches there to guide them.
We believe in partnership with our parents as together we encourage your daughter to find her sense of self, spirit and place in the world. Faculty from each grade meet regularly to discuss triumphs, opportunities, hurdles and solutions, sharing best practices to help our girls navigate the challenges of adolescence, and our advisory groups and core values of honesty, understanding, respect and dedication create a structured climate that is well-positioned to nurture each girl’s unique strengths.
