Frequently Asked Questions

The following FAQs should provide the details that prospective parents and students need to prepare for a campus visit. If questions remain, please contact the Admission Office at 610.526.1667.

Do I need to apply before my child's visit?

Lower School Applicants: Yes, you do need to submit your application before the student visit. The application will help us get to know your daughter better to plan for the visit and make the best possible match with a student hostess.

Middle & Upper School Applicants: Yes, you do need to submit your application before you come to visit. Your application and “Getting to Know You” form will help us make the best possible match with a student hostess and schedule you in classes that meet your interests.

What should my daughter wear for her visit?

Lower School Applicants: The girls here are active and busy. Children should wear comfortable school clothing (no jeans or t-shirts, please), including sneakers and outerwear appropriate to the weather.

Middle School Applicants: The girls here are active and busy, so you’ll want to be in comfortable school clothing (no jeans or t-shirts, please). If you wear a uniform at your current school, you may feel most comfortable wearing it on your Visit Day as well. Students applying to grades 5-7 will have P.E. on their visit day, so please wear or bring your sneakers and appropriate outerwear.

Upper School Applicants: The girls here are active and busy, so you’ll want to be in comfortable school clothing (no jeans or t-shirts, please). If you wear a uniform at your current school, you may feel most comfortable wearing it on your Visit Day as well.

Can I request a hostess?

We do our best to pair you with a hostess who shares your interests and talents. If you know someone who is a student in your grade at Agnes Irwin, you may request that she be your hostess. However, many visitors prefer to meet someone new.

What will my child's day be like?

Lower School Applicants: Applicants to grades 1-4 will participate in normal classroom activities, including specials such as art, music and physical education, depending on the daily schedule. Girls will have time to relax during snack and recess, play at gym and have fun at lunch. If she wants to participate in classes, by all means, she can! We love to hear what visitors have to say. Some girls prefer to take some time to warm up, and that is just fine too. This day is for your daughter to spend time in our community. All types of girls are happy and comfortable here. The day ends at 2:30 p.m.

Middle & Upper School Applicants: Once you arrive in the Front Lobby, we will take you to your first class to meet your hostess and her teacher. Throughout the day, you will visit all of your hostess’ classes and meet girls in your grade. You will have time to experience our classes, meet our teachers, and get to know our students. If you want to participate in classes, by all means, raise your hand! We’d love to hear what you have to say. If you prefer to take some time to warm up, that is just fine too. This day is for you to spend time in our community. Your day will end with pick-up at 2:50 p.m., when your parent or guardian picks you up.

I’ve heard about “interviews.” Do I need to prepare?

You don’t need to prepare. Your “interview” will be a casual conversation with one of our Admission Directors. This is a chance for us to get to know each other better. We will talk about your day at Agnes Irwin, discuss your academic and extracurricular interests and answer any questions you might have.

Is it normal to feel nervous?

Visiting schools is exciting and a little scary - a combination that sometimes results in jittery nerves! Don’t worry. We are here to make your day as relaxed, fun and informative as possible. Our visitors leave with a great sense of the lively students, engaging academics and warm community that make Agnes Irwin a great place to go to school!

We are here to answer your questions at any time. If there is something you would like to discuss after your Visit Day, just give us a call at 610.526.1667. Anyone in the Admission Office would be happy to talk to you.
