Leadership in Upper School

Many ways to make a difference

Agnes Irwin values leadership in many forms. Our elected leadership opportunities come to life through our unique Board system. But leaders aren’t just those who hold elected positions; there are other avenues, such as student clubs, our House system and community service, to exercise leadership. To get involved, learn more about our clubs, organizations, House System and community outreach program.

Student Government oversees our Board system, which is made up of six boards that each represent one of our school's core values. Stud Gov, as it is affectionately known, is made up of elected class representatives from grades 9-12 and the senior Student Body President. Student Government and Boards meet once a cycle.

Arts Board

The Arts Board is an organization of elected representatives from each grade in the Upper School who strive to support the arts in the Agnes Irwin community. The Arts Board organizes events such as the Impulse Arts open mic night and Arts Week. This board also tries to keep the arts in people's minds by bringing artistic endeavors into usually non-artistic events, such as AIS/EA day.

Athletic Association

The Athletic Association strives to promote the love of athletics through the modeling of good sportsmanship and leadership on and off the field. We hold activities throughout the year that are open to the whole school and we do our best to get students out to games, meets and matches to support their fellow students.

Environmental Board

The Environmental Board aims to educate and inspire students to become more active participants in maintaining a healthy planet. We will do so by facilitating the transition into the new building and its composting system, planning events such as our Spring Open Mic Night, and generally setting good examples in the community to motivate peers to act "greener."

Honor Board

The Honor Board works to promote honor and integrity throughout the school as a whole. We work to engage Upper School students in our school's honor code through forums and we strive to inform the student body on the importance of an honorable community. Honor Board also works to inform both the Middle and Lower schools about the importance of honor, both in and out of the school community through skits, games and meetings.

Multicultural Board

Multicultural Board aims to bring awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion to the AIS community and the world. By redefining diversity to extend to more than race and skin color, we allow others to feel included and appreciate their differences. Celebration and appreciation of multiculturalism creates a more united and cohesive community.

Student Outreach Services Board

The leadership board, Student Outreach Services (SOS), oversees service in the Upper School. Comprised of 13 students, each elected by her peers, SOS leads and promotes community service throughout the year.
