2nd Annual "For Girls, By Girls" Leadership Conference
Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 9:00-3:30 p.m.
This was the 2nd year we hosted the Leading For Change conference. Last year, 120 high school girls representing more than 20 high schools in the Greater Philadelphia area came together for an empowerment experience unlike any other in the local independent and public school community. This year we hosted 140 high school girls to the event that incorporated workshop sessions to educate them about a variety of leadership skills. Workshops addressed entrepreneurship, media and public relation skills, and negotiation among others. The conference also served as a platform to launch Girls CAN--a chapter-like system of Girls Councils designed to support students interested in starting their own group dedicated to impacting change in their school communities.
We were very excited to have Megan Murphy (right), Executive Director for the National Coalition of Girls' Schools, and Zerlina Maxwell, political analyst, speaker, commentator and writer, deliver our two keynote addresses. Murphy discussed her experiences with girls and their capacity for making powerful change in the world, and Maxwell will discussed the trials and triumphs she has faced throughout her career, and the power that women possess to affect change.
