CAG Update: September 2020

Greetings!

The Center for the Advancement of Girls at the Agnes Irwin School is embracing this year with the same spirit as the rest of the Agnes Irwin community: with resilience, flexibility and creativity. We have been tested and challenged in ways that perhaps we could have never imagined. In the words of John Maxwell, “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.”

Though it may be painful, difficult or seemingly impossible, we owe it to ourselves and to our girls to lean into growth with an open heart and mind--the Center is here to help! We will provide a monthly update to spotlight some of our initiatives, provide resources and engage with our community around the issues that girls will face this year and beyond. Together, we will ensure that every Agnes Irwin girl feels valued, celebrated, affirmed, and supported as she navigates her journey to becoming her best, most empowered self.

Warmly,
Alison B. Monzo

Upper School Elected Student Leader Training

Featuring insights from the recently published report Ready to Lead by Dr. Charlotte Jacobs, who will join us in February for a conversation about gender and race conscious education, this two part training focused on the examination and translation of identity through leadership. Student leaders came away with a deeper understanding of how their values influence how they approach their roles.

AthLEADs Seminar: Resilience

Agnes Irwin alumna Nancy Taylor ’11 helped to kick off this year’s AthLEADs seminars in a conversation about resilience. This is a key attribute Agnes Irwin girls come to understand and cultivate throughout their educational journey including on the playing field. Nancy encouraged girls to actively consider what else lies ahead for them and to connect to the purpose of their decisions through athletics and academics as they enter the world. Be on the lookout for information about the second seminar in the coming months!
