Agnes Irwin Names New Director of Squash
After an extensive search this fall and winter, it is with great excitement that we announce Fabio Cechin, Head Squash Professional at Merion Cricket Club and US Squash Junior National Team Coach, as the next Director of Squash at The Agnes Irwin School. Coach Cechin will begin his position in July 2020, after current coach Alex Stait completes his tenure in June.

A familiar name for many AIS families, Cechin has been a squash professional at Merion Cricket Club since 2009, and has served as Head Professional there since 2014. He has coached numerous US Squash and Brazilian Squash national and regional teams, including multiple stints as the US Squash Junior National Team Coach for the Pan-American Junior Championship and the Pennsylvania Regional Squad, and Brazilian Junior National Team Coach at the Pan-American Junior Championship.

An accomplished squash player himself, Cechin was a top Brazilian Junior player, winning the South American Junior Championship in 1999, and moving on to play in the PSA World Tour and achieving a world ranking of #180. After completing his professional career, he began his coaching career at Academia Squash in Brazil in 2001. He is a US Squash Level 3 Certified Coach.

"I am thrilled that Fabio Cechin will be joining Agnes Irwin and leading our squash program," said Athletic Director Courtney Lubbe. "Coach Cechin is a seasoned coach, an accomplished player, and a well-respected leader and mentor in the national and international junior squash circuit. His care for the development of student-athletes at every age was evident from our first conversation, and his experience, strong character and leadership abilities will allow our program to continue to build on the strong foundation laid by Alex Stait."

Coach Cechin would like to share the following with the AIS community: "I'm very excited to join the team at Agnes Irwin as the new Director of Squash. The program excelled under the leadership of Alex Stait, and I am looking forward to building upon that foundation by passing on my international knowledge and playing experience. I'm excited to continue the development of our squash program for girls of all ages at AIS, to prepare our teams to compete at the highest level nationally, and to help our student-athletes achieve their individual goals."

Coach Cechin will be on campus beginning this summer, and will offer training opportunities including camps, clinics and lessons for the AIS community.
