AIS Names New Chief Financial Officer

After a nationwide search, we are pleased to announce that Nico Washington will join our community this summer as the next Chief Financial Officer at The Agnes Irwin School. Nico brings a wealth of experience in all aspects of financial management, including a robust 20-year career as a leader in the University System of Maryland.

Nico, who currently serves as Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer for the Universities at Shady Grove, has served in a series of roles in the University System of Maryland with progressive responsibility within the organization. Beginning as a Program Administrator, Business Manager, and later Business Services Administrator, she was responsible for internal accounting, information systems development, creating administrative systems, and fiscal management strategies.

In her position as Associate Provost for Financial Affairs, she oversaw 135 departmental budgets — totaling more than $200 million — and conducted a multi-year budget planning process focused on revenue generation and cost reduction. In this role, she also served as an advisor to the Senior Vice President and Provost on all fiscal, budgetary, and administrative matters; supervised daily operations of the financial and administrative functions for the college; and supported Academic Affairs in coordinating funding for classroom construction & renovation, technology upgrades and instructional equipment.

In her current role as Chief Operating and Chief Financial Officer for the Universities at Shady Grove, Nico provides leadership, management, and oversight of all administrative, operational, and financial affairs, including supporting compliance and budget management, strategic financial planning, and internal and external audits for the school. In this role, Nico also oversees Auxiliary Services, including facilities, the campus bookstore, food services, transportation, public safety and security, and the business office, including human resources and talent management.

Nico shared the following with the AIS community:

"I am excited and truly honored to be joining such a dynamic leadership team as the next Chief Financial Officer at The Agnes Irwin School. The commitment and strong support for Agnes Irwin's mission displayed during my full-day campus visit reinforced my eagerness to join such an amazing community. For the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of supporting and maintaining academic and administrative excellence through partnership and collaboration. I look forward to building relationships with faculty, staff, students, families, and the broader Agnes Irwin community as we continue with the school's mission to empower girls to learn, to lead, and to live a legacy — and anticipate an amazing journey together as we continue to create a bold vision for the future at The Agnes Irwin School.”

"We look forward to incorporating Nico's vision, expertise, and presence into the future of our institution," said Head of School Sally Keidel. "Please join me in welcoming Nico to The Agnes Irwin School as our next Chief Financial Officer!"
