AIS Squash Duo Wins 3rd Consecutive National Doubles Title

Three Agnes Irwin squash players took top honors earlier this month in the US Squash Junior Doubles Championships, with Olivia Walsh ’20 and Rachel Mashek ’20 making history by becoming the first-ever partnership at US Squash to win three consecutive Girls U19 titles, and Katherine Glaser ’20 taking first place in the Mixed U19 championship with Shipley’s Maxwell Orr.

Six Agnes Irwin players competed in the May 3-5 tournament, with the two-time U19 champion duo of Olivia Walsh and Rachel Mashek playing against Agnes Irwin teammates Katherine Glaser ’20 and Cate Costin ’20 in a very close four-game final — marking the first time two AIS doubles teams have competed in the finals for the title. Cici Curran ’24 finished 2nd in the Girls U13 division, and Emma Twitmyer ’22 finished 5th in the Girls U19 event, in the first doubles nationals appearance for both players.

“I am so proud of the spirit and sportsmanship our players demonstrated, and they all could not have represented Agnes Irwin in a better way,” said AIS Director of Squash Alex Stait.

Additionally, Katherine Glaser was recognized as an All-American high school player by US Squash earlier this spring.

The girls are back in training for next season with a heavy program planned for the summer.
