Destination Higher Ed: A Snapshot of the Class of 2019



On Thursday, June 6, we will celebrate the 70 students of the Class of 2019 during Commencement. We are proud of their accomplishments at Agnes Irwin — the Owls are well prepared to lead and succeed at outstanding colleges and universities across the country and around the world!

Here’s a quick overview of the Class of 2019 profile:

  • Offers of admission: 312 from 136 institutions of higher learning
  • Number of institutions attending: 50
    • 3 countries: France, Scotland, and the United States
    • 21 states
    • Historically Black Colleges and Universities: 2
  • Specialized programs: 6, including Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University Jewish Theological Seminary, and The American Musical & Dramatic Academy
  • Intended Majors/Programs:
    • Humanities-related majors: 23%
    • STEM: 22%
    • Business: 13%
    • Pre-professional (pre-med, pre-veterinary, etc.): 13%
    • Visual and performing arts: 8%
    • Nursing: 7%
    • Undeclared: 14%
  • Recruited NCAA athletes: 16%
    • Crew/rowing, lacrosse, swimming, volleyball, and squash

In addition, several students have been invited to participate in elite honors and scholarship programs, including:

  • University Scholars Program in Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis (allows student to graduate with a B.S. and M.D. in 7 years)
  • Presidential Scholars at University of Miami Stars Scholar at Drexel University (allows student to conduct paid, faculty-mentored research)
  • Paterno Fellow at Penn State University
  • Schreyer Honors College at Penn State University
  • Dean’s Scholar at Bucknell University
  • Maguire Scholar at Thomas Jefferson University
