French Week 2023:
Agnes Irwin proudly celebrated our twenty-second annual National French Week recently. The week-long celebration of all things French provides an opportunity to take French out of the classroom and give our community an overview of the importance of the French language in the Francophone world. The importance of learning a second language in our globalized world is also emphasized.
In addition to enjoying French croissants and crepes at lunch and snack (mais bien sur!), the Upper School shared French expressions that are commonly used in English, learned new French songs and folk dancing, researched Francophone female historians, scientists, and artists, and researched Francophone countries.
In the Middle School, students who study French researched Francophone countries and created posters that reflect the important aspects of their assigned country, such as la capitale, monuments, food, flags, population, currency, and tourist attractions. At the Francophone travel fair, students received a “passport stamp” at each Francophone country they visited.
All Around Me, la Francophonie!
