Freshman Lauren DeRose was recently selected for the 2020 U.S. Field Hockey U-16 Women’s National Team, one of only 35 athletes nationwide chosen for this prestigious team. This achievement is the highest field hockey honor that an athlete of this age can attain.
Lauren and the other members of U-16 — including fellow Owl Maggie Kondrath ’23 — traveled to Chula Vista, California in February for training, and will compete with fellow women’s Junior National Teams in North Carolina in March, train with the Rise United States Women’s National Team in Maryland in April, and will head across the Atlantic to Lilleshall, England.
“We are proud of what Lauren has accomplished as a student-athlete,” remarked Agnes Irwin Athletic Director Courtney Lubbe. “Representing your country in your sport is the highest honor an athlete can achieve. We’re excited about all the playing opportunities that Lauren, as well as teammate Maggie Kondrath, will have with this national team.”
USA Field Hockey is the national governing body for the sport of field hockey in the United States, and is a member organization of the United States Olympic Committee.
