Agnes Irwin Kicks Off 155th School Year
What a day! Our students returned to campus today filled with excitement for the school year. In the all-school assembly, Head of School Sally Keidel remarked, "We are all here because we believe in the power of all-girls education. We believe in the promise and possibility of all of you, our students. Every day, we focus on our committment to academic excellence and guiding you to become impassioned, resilient, and empowered learners and leaders."
The 155th session of The Agnes Irwin School will center around the core value of Fostering Trust and Community. Student speakers shared their thoughts about the importance of community. Lola Akinsemoyin '33 shared, "I am a fourth grader now, but even as a first grader, when I first started at Agnes Irwin, I recognized right away that this was a special place. It is extremely rewarding to have opportunities to help build our school community. I have enjoyed helping friends on the Buddy Bench, picking up trash on the playground or in the creek, recycling chip bags, and making baked treats for the bake sale to donate to an animal shelter."
Sidney Bligh '29, Middle School Student Council President, said, "Agnes Irwin is where I can trust the people around me in and out of class. It's where I can discover who I am and who I want to be. As I enter into my last year of Middle School, I know that the best version of myself is not just being a great student; it's being someone who will try new things, make new friends, step up to lead, and is not afraid to take a risk."
Student Body President Whitney Cuddeback '25 delivered an empowering speech where she reminded everyone that "[I]t's not our lifespan that counts, it's our wingspan. It's our ability to make a positive impact that matters, to foster trust and community, and to positively affect those around us. Don't underestimate yourself. Take chances, push yourself. You have the power to do more than you can imagine. Remember that the lasting friendships made here are the heart of the Agnes Irwin community."
Have a great school year!
