The victory over Penn Charter was Agnes Irwin's 5th straight win of the season, and closest scoring match all year. AIS improved their overall record to 5-0, and stretched their undefeated mark in league play to 8-0 over the past two seasons.
Depth on the ladder was critical in Agnes Irwin's success. Agnes Irwin's number one, Katherine Glaser ’20, was injured, causing the full ladder to move up one position. Matches 1-3 went in favor of Penn Charter, while matches 4-9 were dominated by Agnes Irwin, with all match results 3-0.
"It's exciting to see how far our team has come since my freshman year,” said team captain Caroline Glaser ’19. “It's rewarding to win the Inter-Ac, but we want to continue improving and keep our feet on the gas pedal."
Glaser said the team was pleased with the result but was focused on the remainder of the season. "We're looking forward to nationals in February, and we want to keep pushing and improving so we can do well there. The level of play will be high, and we need to stay humble and fight for every match we play."
Director of Squash Alex Stait, reflecting on winning the league, said, "To win our second Inter-Ac in a row was our main goal of the season. I am so proud of the girls and happy for them for their success. They have trained extremely hard for a long time and it is nice to see that work being rewarded."
Senior leadership has been a critical component in the team's success, Stait said. "I especially want to congratulate our senior captains Emily Coyne, Caroline Glaser, and Isabella Schneider. They have helped create a great culture in our team of working hard, playing the game in the right way, and being a great teammate. For us, those three areas are our top priorities and to win the Inter-Ac is truly icing on the cake."
