Our Approach to Girl-Centered Teaching and Learning

At Agnes Irwin, our teaching practices are grounded in research on how girls learn best. We believe strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning, and that school should be a joyful place for exploration and growth. When girls have a voice and choice in their academic lives, they develop the agency and confidence to drive their own learning. Effective learning is purposeful, engaging, and enriched by creativity, curiosity, and flexibility—mindsets essential for thriving in a rapidly changing world.

Our research-backed curriculum challenges students with relevant, novel, and complex problems, preparing them to become leaders in any path they choose. AIS educators model lifelong learning as reflective, collaborative practitioners. As disciplinary experts, mentors, and guides, they work together to inspire and engage learners at every level.

Through ongoing professional development supported by The Center for the Advancement of Girls, our faculty stays current with the latest research in girl-centered teaching and learning. The Teaching, Learning, and Innovation team empowers teachers to set high expectations, helping students grow as independent, resilient, and reflective individuals. By understanding each girl’s strengths and fostering meaningful relationships, we ensure every student thrives within our vibrant community.
