Lower School Arts

The Lower School Arts program nurtures creativity, collaboration, and skill development through hands-on learning and performance. Students explore music and visual art while building confidence, teamwork, and a strong foundation in creative expression.

Music

Lower School music classes use Kodály-inspired practices to help students develop a strong foundation in music through singing. Students have multiple opportunities to share their learning throughout the year at events such as the Winter Concert, Grandfriends Day, and Spring Sing.

In the spring, fourth graders collaborate with their music and art teachers to create and perform a short musical. They design and build the backdrop and props, learn the music and staging, and showcase their performance for peers and families, combining creativity, teamwork, and musical skill.

Visual Arts

In Lower School art classes, students are introduced to a variety of artists and illustrators, drawing inspiration from their work to create original projects. They explore a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and textiles, developing both technical skills and creative expression.

During seasonal concerts, the Laura Thomas Buck ‘49 Pavilion transforms into a student art gallery, showcasing student creations for families and visitors to enjoy, celebrating their artistic achievements throughout the year.
