Fifth grade Spanish, a half-year course, is designed to serve students at diverse levels of language acquisition. Study of global cultures is embedded in each themed unit, and activities, projects and assessments are designed to challenge students with a range of prior experience in Spanish; beginners, students who have completed our Lower School Spanish program, and anyone in between. By building upon their own preexisting knowledge, students will begin to expand their language skills and vocabulary through individualized amplification of familiar and new topics such as Spanish phonetics, greetings, daily activities, calendar year, time, weather, animals, food, clothing, etc. Through use of different instructional techniques such as the flipped classroom, project-based learning and exposure to authentic Spanish language resources, the goal of the course is to meet students where they are in their study of Spanish and facilitate each girl's personal growth in interpersonal, interpretive and presentational language use. The emphasis is on communication and creative linguistic play, as the students bring together their knowledge and skills to express themselves in Spanish through a variety of mediums.
