Wellness begins in February following the Inside Outside program and continues until the end of the year. During this time two major components are discussed: physical wellness and community wellness. Beginning with physical wellness we examine three health risk factors: hereditary, environmental, and behavioral. Through in-class activities, students are asked to examine the differences and similarities between certain environmental and behavioral risk factors. Our discussion leads us into infectious disease and the important role our immune system and immunizations play specifically during adolescence. In  community wellness, students are asked what it means to be an informed consumer and learn how to read food labels for nutrition facts and ingredients. Students take these skills, and finding a product on their own, present and discuss what they know about their products.
