This course to teaches information literacy and 21st century skills while reinforcing the communication technology skills needed for academic success. Information literacy determines how one thinks about, finds, evaluates, incorporates and presents information. This course applies a 21st century model that focuses on critical thinking, media literacy, improving research strategies, communication and collaboration skills. Students employ the Big 6 problem-solving model for a foundation as they develop their critical thinking skills, work individually and collaboratively, and learn to locate, access, evaluate, and effectively communicate information in multiple formats. Using rubrics, students self-assess the research process as well as the product. With continual changes in technology, students develop strategies for confidently adopting new tools, utilizing Help menus, using web-based tutorials, being flexible and resilient, and collaborating with classmates. The units of study also include media literacy and web ethics/safety.
