The goal of the French 8 program is to provide students with the tools that will allow them to become more proficient in French as the capstone to a three-year Middle School language progression. Throughout the year, students develop the four language skills, speaking, writing, reading and listening.  Students learn to function in classes conducted mostly in the target language.  Students increase proficiency by studying more sophisticated aspects of grammar, more vocabulary, descriptive words and structures, use of adverbs, comparative structures, use of present, future, past and imperative forms for regular and irregular verbs.  Students work to perfect pronunciation and speech.  They learn to respond to oral and written instructions in the target language.  Students will become able to discuss topics in specific situations using appropriate and relevant vocabulary and sentence structures. Communicating about leisure activities, identities and origins, descriptions of daily occurrences will happen not only in conversations and discussions but also in writing.  Students write creatively, persuasively and reflectively, and respond to questions and commands in reading and listening activities. In addition, students are introduced to cultures different from their own from France and other Francophone countries, in order to help them become aware of cultural diversity in the global community.
