Passionate researcher Jean Bradley Anderson ’45 dedicated decades to documenting the history of Durham County, North Carolina. One of her six published works, Durham County, first released by Duke University Press in 1990 and expanded in 2011, is widely regarded as the authoritative history of the region. Mrs. Anderson began her undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in 1942, pursued a master’s degree in 1946, and continued doctoral work thereafter. Although responsibilities and geography prevented her from completing the Ph.D. at the time, she was officially conferred the degree on September 4, 2024, just a few months after celebrating her 100th birthday.
