Lower School For Girls

We believe in girl power.

That's why we empower girls — to explore, to reach higher, to speak up, to take part — from their very first day of Lower School.

Everything our all-girls elementary students experience is rooted in research about what's best for girls: how they learn, how their brains develop, and what their social and emotional needs are. Our girls are known, understood, supported, and free to be their very best selves. Throughout the journey, they’re guided by exceptional teachers — the kind who have a gift for bringing out the best in each girl.

Every girl can lead.

We want every girl to feel empowered to ask questions, find answers, and self-advocate. That’s why we developed L3, our Living Leadership in the Lower School curriculum. Created by a team of faculty, the Center for the Advancement of Girls, and Bryn Mawr College researchers, the program features a Leadership Toolkit that brings abstract ideas about leadership to life for young learners.

Explore, experience, and stretch.

Our research-based curriculum is designed to balance challenging academics with wellness to help girls from private PreKindergarten to Grade 4 thrive in daily math, language arts, and Spanish classes, as well as science, art, STEAM workshops, music, P.E. and playtime.

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education curriculum at Agnes Irwin is rooted in girl-centered research and developed through the lens of how young girls learn best, building a strong foundation for the rest of each student's Lower School journey.

Let's Care Program

Our Let’s Care program is central to Lower School life and promotes the “four C’s” of social intelligence: communicating, caring, coping, and character building. Girls learn an array of skills, from mindfulness and self-care to friendship-making strategies.

iWonder Lab

The Lower School's iWonder Lab gives girls space to create, experiment, tinker, and engineer. Design-thinking projects engage girls with codeable robots, circuitry kits, K'NEX, art supplies, and other manipulatives as they follow their own sense of wonder.

Explore Innovation at AIS

At the end of the day, there's more to explore.

When the school day’s over, the fun continues for girls in our after-school programs. A multitude of enriching activities makes After Session (our daily after-school program) and Extra Session (our specialty classes) popular among Lower School girls.
