Agnes Irwin's teachers may not be around school this summer, but they're still working hard on other projects. Dr. Cara Latham, Middle School music teacher, has spent the summer preparing for her lead role in Faust, which will be presented by Berks Opera Company Aug. 14 and 16.

"Based on the immortal tale by Goethe, Faust tells the story of an aging scientist who sells his soul to the devil for a final opportunity at youth and love," the Berks Opera description reads. This particular production has been designed to address the issue of addiction, and is set in modern day Reading. The opera is sung in French with English subtitles; Latham plays Marguerite.

Faust will be performed at the Miller Center for the Arts in Reading on Friday, Aug. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 16 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available here

Latham is a company member of Art Song Philadelphia and performs with them regularly; she will also be singing Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutti with Concert Opera Philadelphia in February.
