Two Juniors Named Finalists in National Photography Contest

Two AP photography students have been selected as finalists in the  Photographer's Forum College and High School Photography Contest. The annual contest receives more than 15,000 submissions each year.

Annie McConnon '17 and Maya Brown-Hunt '17 will have their photographs featured in the 2016 Best of College and High School Photography.

Annie's winning photograph, "Man," was taken on a fishing boat in Costa Rica this summer. She and four other AIS students visited the country on a trip sponsored by the Council on International Educational Exchange to study biodiversity, sustainability and conservation.

"We were in such a unique place, experiencing things we had never seen or done before, and I wanted to capture our journey in a photograph," Annie said. "The man in the photo was a good representation of the people we encountered in Costa Rica."

Maya's photograph, "Side of the Road," was taken in Peru last spring while traveling with an AIS Special Studies Program group. "I was inspired by the Peruvian culture reflected in the children's clothing and the Andes Mountains," Maya said.

She noted the contrasting elements in the children's clothing: "Some are wearing the traditional Peruvian dress, while one is wearing a more modern jacket and pants. These kids, set in front of the mountains, really make me think about the world and varying cultures."
