Agnes Irwin’s Repertory Company has been selected to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the world’s largest and most prestigious arts festival, as part of the American High School Theatre Festival (AHSTF).
"This is truly an honor for our theater program at AIS. The selection recognizes the excellence of our program, which means that each and every student who has been involved in any of our productions contributed to this accolade," said Bill Esher, Chair of the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Esher said the theater program would use next school year to develop a stage production for the festival.
Every August, Edinburgh, Scotland, becomes the most magical and exciting place on earth as performing artists from around the world converge on the city to take part in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Visitors can view performances everywhere from traditional theater spaces to playgrounds, city parks and churches.
The Fringe Festival includes more than 3,000 performances of music, theater, dance, comedy and more over three weeks in the summer. Agnes Irwin’s theater company will be showcased at an AHSTF venue in August 2017.
High school theater groups are nominated for inclusion in an application process for a spot on the festival roster. Directors from national, regional and state theater organizations, university theater professors and AHSTF alumni directors submit nominations.
Final selections are made by the AHSTF Board of Advisors, which comprises college theater professionals. The board recognizes high schools based on their most recent body of work, community involvement, philosophies, awards and recommendations.
