The Agnes Irwin School (AIS) is committed to the privacy of its students and families. As part of the School’s commitment, this policy describes our data collection, usage, retention, deletion, security and Internet practices for data collected on this website. Should you have any questions or concerns about this policy, please address your inquiries and comments to the AIS Office of Marketing and Communications at the contact address shown below.
Collection of Information
We gather three types of information through our website:
- Information Collected Automatically
- Information Collected for Customization
- Personal Information
Information collected automatically includes IP address, operating system, browser type, the time and date of access, etc. This information is retained temporarily in our system logs to assist in the management and security of our website. By use of our website, you are assumed to consent to collection of this type of data, which is anonymous. Log file information is further described below.
Information collected for customization utilizes “cookies” saved on your computer. Cookies are small text files that help you navigate through our website, see certain features, or save your authentication information. These cookies may either be session (temporary during your access of the website) or persistent (survive after you have left the website). If you do not want to have either type of cookies stored on your computer, you can turn off this capability in your browser. AIS only utilizes cookies that you can control through browser settings. Cookies are further described below.
Personal information (information about or associated with a family or student) is collected in a number of locations on this website and includes personally identifiable information (e.g., name, address, birthdate, email, user ID, identifying government identifiers or financial information). We do not collect any personal information unless you voluntarily provide it by participating in an activity, such as posting a blog entry, sending us e-mail, participating in a survey, or completing an online form. Consent is sought when appropriate, as described in the following section.
Where consent for the use and disclosure of personal information is required, the School will seek consent from the appropriate person, in accordance with applicable laws. In the case of a student’s personal information, the school will seek the consent from the student and/ or parent depending on the circumstances and the student’s maturity to understand the consequences of the proposed use and disclosure.
Use of Personal Information
When a user submits personal information, it is used only for the purpose stated at the time of collection. Personal information submitted to this website will not be transferred to any non-affiliated third parties unless otherwise stated at the time of collection or as required by court order. We may utilize subcontractors to carry out the purposes for which data was collected. These subcontractors will be under written agreement to provide the same safeguards to protect your personal information, as described under security below. We will never sell or lease your personal information. We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide you with the services you are using at AIS or as needed to comply with our legal obligations or enforce our agreements.
In order to facilitate data analysis, educational purposes, or to maintain your “logged in” status when visiting protected areas, cookies can be used. They are not linked to any personally identifiable information while on our site. Web browsers have settings allowing you to reject cookies, or selectively accept cookies, or delete cookies previously accepted. Please be aware that rejecting or deleting cookies from our website may make certain functions unavailable to you.
Like most standard website servers we use website statistic packages to analyze trends in how our website is accessed and utilized. Information monitored includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, geographic location of visitors (country, city), browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, time spent on pages, and keywords used to find our site via search engines. This information is anonymous and cannot be directly linked to individual users. We may use it to identify high-use or low-use areas of the website, pinpoint problem areas of the site, analyze broad demographic trends in our visitors, and make decisions about how to make it easier for people to find and navigate our website.
This website may contain links to other sites that users may find interesting. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites, including their views or the accuracy of information contained on their site or servers. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. The School’s website privacy statement applies solely to information collected by its website.
Publicly accessible information
Posts to online documents, discussion forums, discussion boards, comments to blogs, and Alumnae Class Notes are viewable by other users. When these areas are not in a password protected area, they may be viewable by the general public. Please be aware of this when posting personal information in these areas.
This website takes every precaution to protect our users' personal information. We employ security policies and measures to protect your information from access by unauthorized persons and against unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction or damage. Whenever users are asked to submit personally identifiable information via online forms, for registration, or for online purchase, the transmission of that information is encrypted via Secured Sockets Layer (SSL) or similar techniques. Other transmissions such as email may not utilize such secure transmission techniques and you should not transmit information you consider highly sensitive via less secure methods. Servers that store the personal information you have submitted are located in a secure environment deploying reasonable technical, physical, and administrative controls.
Information provided by you that you opt to be included in any directories on our website, such as the alumnae directory, will be accessible to other members of our online community. This information is not accessible to the general public and you may opt in or opt out of these directories at any point. We may provide contact information to class agents, reunion organizers and other groups directly affiliated to AIS in order that they can contact you about events.
You should be able to review, modify, and delete any data you have submitted online through the same online mechanisms. If you are unable to do so, please contact us as shown below.
