Academic Enrichment Offerings

Summer at AIS  is pleased to offer academic enrichment opportunities for boys and girls Grades 1st - 10th.
Please see below our offerings for the Summer 2024 season.

Reading Rockets | Rising 1st - 3rd Graders

Please read the description of Reading Rockets carefully, noting the length of each session (as they vary), to whom each offering is open (as it varies), and for whom Reading Rockets is designed.

This half-day camp, taught by Agnes Irwin Lower School Learning Specialists, is designed for students who would benefit from additional practice and instruction in foundational literacy skills to help maintain and build reading skills for the coming year.  Please note that this camp is not intended for children who are already skillful and proficient readers and writers at their grade level.

During camp, students will participate in daily literacy activities in these areas:

●  Word Study, including practicing sounds, practicing word reading with accuracy and automaticity, and practicing high frequency words

● Handwriting and Spelling

● Reading connected text with accuracy, fluency, and comprehension

Every day will also include time for snack, games, and outside play.  The camp will be taught in a small group, and we will cap the numbers so that each child gets personalized attention.  We want to prevent summer slide and foster confident, joyful readers!
